Always remember that musical spoons are made of wood and should never be placed near a heat source, such as a spotlight, radiator or in direct sunlight. The wood could then warp and render the spoons unusable.
Nor should they be immersed in water or subjected to high humidity for long periods. Here too, the wood could warp.
The dishwasher... number 1 enemy for wooden spoons!
The spoons are finished in the workshop with a natural oil which hardens the surface of the wood and protects it from environmental variations. Although this oil treatment can provide spoons with excellent protection for many years, frequent handling dulls the lustre of the wood surface and diminishes its protective qualities.
It is therefore advisable to apply an occasional coat of natural wood oil, available from hardware stores.
